OK, so you just finished learning all the legal requirements of boating. And this is a little bit of a doozy, so make sure that you now know—which vessels need to be registered and how to do it, where to put certificate numbers and registration decals, where to find the HIN number and age restrictions of operation. Know about and, of course, avoid unlawful behaviors while boating, like alcohol, drugs. Know the penalties and, of course, the dangers. Be able to identify classifications and uses of personal flotation devices, life jackets, and state and legal requirements. Know the legal requirements for: fire extinguishers, backfire flame arrestors, ventilation systems and mufflers, navigation light requirements, visual distress signals, and sound-producing devices. Know requirements for other equipment, like diver-down flags or other state-required equipment. Understand the legal requirements specific to PWCs. Know the requirements for towing a skier with a vessel. Know how to properly dispose of waste, oil, trash, and properly use MSDs. And know when and how to properly report a boating accident. Good luck on the quiz. We’ll see you in Chapter 5.
