Louisville Football: 2024 recruiting class holds seven, sits among Top 25 (2024)

Louisville's 2024 recruiting class has added five during the month of April

Michael McCammon

Louisville football signed one of the program's best-ever recruiting classes with the incoming 2023 group and now the coaching staff is putting in the effort to have another impressive class for 2024.

The class began last summer when four-star running back Isaac Brown announced for Louisville, then at the start of the new year, landed one of the highest-rated prospects in program history in edge rush TJ Capers.

This month, UofL head coach Jeff Brohm and his staff have added five more to the commitment list. The latest to join the 2024 recruiting class was Saline, Mich., tight end Dylan Mesman. A four-star prospect, Mesman ranks among the top 20 tight ends nationally, with the 247Sports Composite placing him as the No. 385 overall prospect.

While still very early in the process, Mesman's commitment moved Louisville's current seven-man class into the top 25 of 247Sports team recruiting rankings. Louisville currently sits at No. 23 nationally. The group's average prospect rating of 89.16 is currently the 19th highest nationally.

Check out the current list of commitments in order of commitment date below. This report will be updated throughout the 2024 recruiting process.

Louisville Football: 2024 recruiting class holds seven, sits among Top 25 (2)

Isaac Brown
Homestead, Fla.
Running Back

Commitment Date: August 1, 2022

Ratings
247Sports: No. 195 nationally, No. 16 RB, No. 32 in Florida
247Sports Composite: No. 286 nationally, No. 24 RB, No. 43 in Florida
247Sports Composite Rating: 0.9081

Homestead, Fla., running back Isaac Brown was the first member of Louisville's 2024 recruiting class. He committed to Louisville in August 2022 over scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Penn State, Texas A&M, West Virginia and a host of others.

Andrew Ivins, Director of Recruiting for 247Sports, has watched Brown compete multiple times and is impressed by his ability to impact.

"A new-age scatback that can impact the game as a ball carrier, a pass catcher and a return man. Played a huge part in Homestead’s magical 2022 campaign as he scored over 15 touchdowns for Florida’s eventual 3M runner-up. Naturally low center of gravity combined with an elite burst and strong contact balance make it extremely difficult for defenders to get him on the ground. Has true one-cut and go capabilities with his track speed (went 10.89 in the 100-meter dash as a sophom*ore), but can also dance his way out of trouble and isn’t afraid to reverse the field in hopes of finding green grass."

TJ Capers
Miami, Fla. Columbus HS
Edge

Commitment Date: January 7, 2023

Ratings
247Sports: No. 51 nationally, No. 7 Edge, No. 8 in Florida
247Sports Composite: No. 31 nationally, No. 4 Edge, No. 7 in Florida
247Sports Composite Rating: 0.9826

TJ Capers became the second-highest prospect to commit to Louisville when he did so during the national broadcast of the All-American Bowl at the start of the year. Capers only trails Michael Bush on UofL's all-time recruiting ranking list.

When Capers made his decision, he told 247Sports that he was looking to help others elevate the Louisville program.

“I see a lot of kids that I respect and played with headed that direction,” Capers said. “Florida kids. Real difference-makers. Stanquan Clark (in 2023) and Isaac (Brown in 2024). I think when we get together we’re going to be extremely hard to deal with for every school in the country."

247Sports' Andrew Ivins also impressed with the potential of Capers.

"Should be viewed as one of the top defensive prospects in the country for the 2024 cycle given what he has put on tape in one of the Sunshine State’s highest classification. Will need to keep progressing, but has some of the required traits to be a multi-year starter at the Power Five level and possibly an early-round NFL Draft pick one day.”

Deuce Adams
Austin, Tex., Vandegrift HS
Quarterback

Commitment Date: April 5, 2023

Ratings
247Sports: No. 61 QB, No. 131 in Texas
247Sports Composite: No. 732 nationally, No. 42 QB, No. 114 in Texas
247Sports Composite Rating: 0.8711

Deuce Adams, 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, committed to Louisville shortly after making a weekend-long unofficial visit.

“Mainly, the offense, with the numbers it has put up in the past,” Adams told Cardinal Authority. “I feel like I can be a great fit in that offense. Secondly, I’ve built a great relationship with coach Brian Brohm and head coach Jeff Brohm and I feel like we can do great things together.”

Performing at an Elite 11 regional in Austin, Tex., less than two weeks removed from his commitment, Adams impressed the 247Sports recruiting analysts that were on location. His performance drew 'Top Performer' designation and what is likely a future bump in his prospect rating.

"Adams displayed advanced touch and ball placement of his own. He threw the proverbial "catchable ball" as well as just about anybody in attendance. He plays with smooth, effortless movement patterns that belie his functional athleticism and playmaking ability. Adams, who like (TCU commit) Hejny, should soon see his stock rise on the national QB board per the 247Sports rankings, looked particularly comfortable rolling out and putting the ball in spots on the move."

Ransom McDermott
Noblesville, Ind.
Offensive Line

Commitment Date: April 22, 2023

Ratings

247Sports Composite: No. 925 nationally, No. 76 OL, No. 13 in Indiana
247Sports Composite Rating: 0.8600

Ransom McDermott committed to Louisville soon after an unofficial visit, doing so over additional scholarship offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Purdue, West Virginia and others.

"Each time I would visit schools, I had to picture myself living there, practicing there, and going to school there," the 6-foot-7, 300-pound McDermott told 247Sports. "And with Louisville, it wasn't very difficult to see myself going there. One of the things that stands out is how they emphasize developing their players, not just as athletes, but as young men watching Coach (Richard) Owens on the field, and the way he broke down the film after practice showed me the type of coach he was, and I really felt like that he was the type of Coach I could see myself playing for."

The projection that Louisville is a program on the rise under head coach Jeff Brohm also played a significant role in his decision.

"There is a lot of excitement surrounding the new staff, and I can see that they are trying to take Louisville to another level."
